Alan Rickman of 'Harry Potter' Dies at 69, Questlove, Ariana Grande Respond
Movie and stage star Alan Rickman died on Thursday (Jan. 14) after a battle with cancer, according to his representatives. The 69-year old thespian was known for hit movies like "Die Hard" and as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies assembled a drawn-out curriculum vitae crossing more than 35 years as a performer.
Rickman starred as the diabolical Hans Gruber in Die Hard back in 1988, and was immediately thrust to the forefront of Hollywood bad guys that were notable. It was a part which he nearly turned down, but shown later that he was brought to the script due to the description of black characters. "Every single black character in that movie is highly intelligent and favorable,” he said. "So, 28 years past, that’s fairly ground-breaking, and gently so.”
The British star was known for his unforgettable portrayals of classic picture villains; from the nefarious Gruber as well as the Sheriff of Nottingham in "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" to the mystical Rasputin and Prof. Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series.
